Filmagem de Brésiliens d'Afrique ..., Salvador, 1973Filmage de Brésiliens d'Afrique et Africains du Brésil, Salvador, 1973Cinema, videos and sound recordings have also aroused Pierre Verger's attention. Indeed, he was friend with film directors such as Jean Rouch and ethnomusicologists like Gilbert Rouget.

Films

Verger had a decisive participation in the design, making and direction of various films, some of which were not edited. They are films about aspects of the Bahian and African cultures.

Sound RecordingsCd Casa de Oxumare

Regarding sound recordings, the collection of FPV consists of about 130 hours of recordings made in Nigeria and Benin, mostly with sacred texts in Yoruba (about 100 hours), recordings of sacred music from Africa and, to a lesser extent, from Bahia, both in roll tape and in cassette tapes. This collection is in precarious conditions.

Recently, the only soundtrack recording made by Verger in Bahia involving the alabês of the Oxumaré house has been restored and published. The resulting book, Casa de Oxumaré - Os cânticos que encantaram Pierre Verger, written by Angela Lühning and Sivanilton Encarnação da Mata, shows the religious musical tradition of this terreiro, featured in two CDs annexed to the book.
